The Pie Project began accidentally.
In 2013 we were nearing the end of a six month residency where we had the freedom to explore, play and develop ideas that we’d been wanting to collaborate on for years. We were energized by what we’d created together and wanted feedback about the direction that our collaboration was taking us.
With a handwritten note and a pie coupon we invited twenty people to meet with us and talk about our current work and simmering ideas. We also asked them to tell us their favorite pie. We baked pies, set up meetings and started talking and listening. The realization of what a friendly gesture it is to bake a pie for someone suddenly dawned on us. We had created another project! Without the pie as a calling card we probably would not have had the gumption to ask for meetings. Who refuses pie?
